Students own their own research results, ideas and inventions. If UiT sees a need to take over students' research results, individual agreements must be done. Such an agreement will regulate the parties' rights and obligations. When utilizing the results commercially, students have the same right to reasonable remuneration as UiT's employees.1/3 model as described in 1.3.2. Remuneration.

Students are not required to report.

For P.hd-students

UiT wants to contribute to an open and innovation-promoting culture. When it comes to commercialization and business establishment, our main focus is on research-based innovations. This is reflected in the instruments that can contribute to this process; be it the Entrepreneurship Fund, or Norinnova's Student Incubator. In addition, UiT has a number of studiy programs that support innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship.

UiT's structure consists internally of a central competence unit, SEFU, and an extrernal company Norinnova AS, which advises and offers incubator facilities

There are establishments of students at UiT. In recent years, there has been a lot of focus on four companies, all of which have received the student million (STUD-ENT) from the Research Council. These are knowledge-based establishments that now employ more people and raise new and fresh capital

Noises in the lungs can give an indication that something is wrong. Lung sounds can be difficult to detect and interpret using a standard stethoscope. Medsensio develops a smart algorithm based on machine learning that automatically detects and interprets sounds in the lungs.

Ventyr is a platform where locals can buy last-minute tickets to experiences. One million for a student project at UiT

There is believed to be a great potential for commercialization and entrepreneurship based on students' activities at Norwegian universities and colleges. In the latest High North report, Norinnova is given 12 million over three years, to a gründer fund. UiT wants to target the innovation fund at students as well, and Sparebank1 Nord-Norge contributes financially in the entrepreneurship fund to the Idégeneratoren and in Venture Cup.

UiT has from 2023 become a member of the Pan-European Seal Traineeship Program. This is a comprehensive IP programme which bridges academia and the IP labour market. It covers opportunities in many academic areas. Through it, high-achieving young university graduates or students in the last year of their studies can access paid traineeships at the European Union Intellectual Property Office in Alicante (Spain) or the European Patent Office in Munich (Germany), helping them to get a foot in the door of the competitive world of IP through valuable on-the-job multicultural professional work experience. It’s a 12-months traineeship programme. 

To be able to apply candidates need to be shortlisted by the university member. Deadline 20th of Feb. 2024.

The EPO Pan-European Seal Young Professionals Programme (Pan-Seal YPP) offers opportunities within: 

• Science and engineering (including IT) 
• Human resources and business administration 
• International relations and communication 
• Economics and finance 
• Law 

Every shortlisted candidate holding a nationality of one of the EPO member states is eligible to apply if: 

• already in hold of diploma degree (Bachelor/Master/PhD)- preferably no more than 2 years since graduation 
• or in case of 5-year Master programmes – submitting an attestation from university confirming the bachelor level of so far completed studies (including the number of completed ECTS) 
• or candidates who don’t have diploma yet but are in the last year of their Bachelor / Master / PhD studies and expect to receive the diploma at the latest upon the start of the programme (in such case, the application shall contain information on the expected date of completing the studies) 

The EUIPO Pan-European Seal Programme offers opportunities within:

• Shortlisted candidates must be from the current academic year. This means that only last-year bachelor, last-year master and last-year PhD students are eligible for the EUIPO programme.

The Action Plan for innovation has identified two areas where measures are to be implemented:

• All of UiT's educations must meet the National qualifications framework for lifelong learning's requirements for innovation education
• UiT will offer innovation and entrepreneurship courses adapted to the characteristics of the various faculties
• As of 2021, there is a requirement for general innovation competence in all study programs. This is a minimum requirement, but especially the Norwegian School of Management has a very comprehensive offer
