The 27th Nordic Symposium of Hospitality and Tourism Research will take place in Alta, Norway, and will be organised by the Department of Tourism and Northern Studies and Department of Sociology, Political Science and Community Planning at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. The conference venue is our campus in Alta, a short walk from Alta's town centre.

Alta is situated at 70 degree north, 2,5 hours drive away from the iconic North Cape. Alta is the biggest town in Finnmark, the northernmost county of Norway (20.000 pop.) Historically as well as today, it is a multicultural society of Norwegian, Sami and Finnish people. The most important industries are trade, stone industry, mining, R&D, farming (both traditional and reindeer), tourism and construction work.

In 2018, UiT is 50 years old. The 27th Nordic Symposium on Tourism and Hospitality Research is one of the activities taking place in the celebration year. For more information see https://uit.no/50 (Norwegian only). 

Alta airport, which is a five minutes’ drive away from the hotels has several daily flights to/from Oslo (2 hour’s flight) and Tromsø (30 min. flight). Tromsø has (almost) daily flights to/from London Gatwick, Stockholm and Luleå. SAS and Norwegian are flying to Alta.

If you want to experience arctic landscapes it is possible to travel by bus from Alta/Tromsø to Tromsø/Alta (includes two ferry connections). One way ticket NOK 500,-. For more information see Troms Fylkestrafikk

Departure time from Tromsø Prostneset: 16.00 (Mon-Sun), arrival time Alta 22.15.

Depature times from Alta Rutebilstasjon: 10.55 (Mon-Sat) and 14.15 (Sun), arrival time Tromsø 17.25/20.55.

The rooms at Norges arktiske studentsamskipnad (student accomodation Nyland) are primarily reserved for PhD students, please email: alta.bolig@samskipnaden.no to request availability and to state your PhD student status. If you want to hire bedlinen and towels (NOK 150), please include this in your email. 

Single room 430 NOK/night (VAT included - price will be slightly adjusted spring 2018). You will share bath room with one person and kitchen with 15 persons. The student accomodation is located 2 min walk from campus and city centre.
