Target group for the course is master level students at both the 2-year and 5-year master program. Exchange students may in certain cases take the course if they have the recommended prerequisites to take it. The course is not available for bachelor students.

Associate professor Helge Fredriksen, Department of computer science and associate professor Benjamin Ricaud, Department of Physics and Technology will be responsible for the course.

Registration
Master level students must register for the exam through the Studentweb within February 1st, 2025 (normal proceedure). Note! The course code INF-3993 and version 3 (this is very important) must be chosen.

Overlap
The special curriculum has a full overlap with the FYS-3810 special curriculm that Benjamin Ricaud gave in the spring semester 2024.

Course content
The course will cover Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI for images as well as applied aspects such as continuous integration in production systems. The goal of the course is to provide a master-level introduction to Generative AI, combined with hands-on experience about these new technologies. The students will practice current state-of-the-art open-source tools for generative AI. At the end of the course the students will understand the concepts behind generative AI and be able to program and interact with their own generative models. The course is for students passionate about AI and generative AI. Some emphasis will be put on creating AI tools, which could lead to possible startup ideas. Programming skills in Python are required. Familiarity with machine learning terminology is expected. Knowledge of deep learning is not mandatory but recommended.

All lectures will be streamed / recorded.

PhD-special curriculum
If considered relevant for the PhD training component this special curriculum can also be offered as a PhD special curriculum. The course code is INF-8810. The PhD students must expect an expanded scope / depth in work requirements / exam-related component(s) compared to what is the case for the master's students.

The special curriculum is also open for PhD students from other institutions than UiT. They have to apply within December 1st, 2024. Information about the Application procedure can be found here: https://uit.no/utdanning/opptaksinfo#innhold_711494

PhD students enrolled at UiT can contact the Department of Computer Science.
