Snoerenlab is hiring!
We are looking for three enthusiastic colleagues who would like to build and advance their career in the field of behavioral neuroscience. The ideal candidates will have previous research experience with laboratory animals, be interested in cutting-edge neuroscientific techniques and be able to and interested in working in a team.
We are searching to fill the following positions:
Staff engineer for a period of 2,5 years
We are looking for a candidate that is interested to provide a broad range of technical assistance in the projects led by Dr. Snoeren and head engineer Roy Heijkoop. The main focus will be on histological methods and (advanced) microscopy, but the staff engineer can also be involved in work inside the animal department, which includes brain surgery, behavioral experiments and fiber photometry. Some administrative work regarding laboratory management and health and safety are included in the job description as well.
More information on the qualifications and how to apply can be found on: https://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/197116/staff-engineer-in-behavioral-neuroscience
Application deadline: 10-1-2021
PhD student for a period of 3 years
We are searching for a PhD student who will work in the project “The risks of excessive junk food consumption on the brain reward system. A translational study” (HNF1443-19), which has the goal to study the effects of junk food consumption on the reward system in rats. Some of the techniques used in the study are fiber photometry and chemogenetics. Dr. Eelke Snoeren will act as main supervisor.
The candidate should be in the possession of a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as (behavioral) neuroscience, psychopharmacology, biomedical sciences or biology. Experience with observations and analysis of animal behavior, brain surgery, immunohistochemistry and state-of-the art neuroscience techniques will count in favor of the applicant, as will experience with handling, injecting and perfusing live rodents.
More information on the qualifications and how to apply can be found on: https://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/197187/phd-fellow-in-behavioral-neuroscience
Application deadline: 9-1-2021
Postdoctoral fellow for a period of 2 years
We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow that will work in the project “Antidepressant use during pregnancy: the neurodevelopmental effects on the offspring” (HN PFP 1295-16), which has the goal to study the biological mechanisms and behavioral alterations in offspring due to depression during pregnancy, antidepressant treatment, or the combination thereof. A seminatural environmental set-up is used in which rats live in groups and can freely express their full repertoire of relevant behavior. The postdoc is expected to continue the line of research already performed in the project.
This position requires a PhD degree in any relevant field. Nevertheless, a degree within the areas of (behavioral) neuroscience, psychopharmacology, biomedical sciences or biology is highly desirable. Experience with observations and analysis of animal behavior, immunohistochemistry and epigenetic techniques will count in favor of the applicant, as well as experience with handling, injecting and perfusing live rats.

Two experts (from staff engineer to postdoctoral fellows) for a period of 1 year
Besides the positions announced above, we are also looking for:
- 1 expert in in-vitro extracellular electrophysiology. This candidate will be responsible for setting up the technique in Tromsø and conducting research for future grant applications.
- 1 expert in in-vivo fiber photometry and rat behavior. This candidate will help the lab in conducting research for future grant applications.
Both positions are for a period of 1 year. The position title and salary will be matched to the academic level and experience of the successful applicant (research assistant, staff engineer, or postdoctoral fellow).
These positions are open until a good candidate has been found. Interested and in need for more information? Please contact Dr. Eelke Snoeren: eelke.snoeren@uit.no
