My story: Eline Skirnisdottir Vik
I am a midwife, and a PhD candidate at the University of Bergen in collaboration with Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. My thesis include three epidemiological studies, and the topic for my thesis is migration and adverse neonatal outcomes.
Thanks to EPINOR, in 2019 I was lucky to be able to spend two months in Sweden. I was in Sweden from late summer until late fall. My main supervisor Erica Schytt lives in Falun, and she invited me to join her research team in both Stockholm (Karolinska Institute (KI)) and Falun (Centre for Clinical Research Dalarna (CKF), and University Dalarna). During my stay, I was given the opportunity to present my work at seminars in both Stockholm and Falun, with fruitful feedback from other researchers. Researchers also reviewed my written work, and I was given the opportunity to critically review some of their work as well. I networked with other researchers, in particular those who I joined in a research funding application to NordForsk related to future research on migrant women’s health; Emma - Enhanced Maternity care for Migrant women: research to Action.
In my spare time, I walked in the Swedish forests where I also picked some mushrooms. I am thankful for the time I spent in Sweden and all the excellent researchers I have met. I am sure our paths will cross in the future.
Best regards, Eline Skirnisdottir Vik (midwife and PhD candidate)
