    Forskningsinteresser

The research area is “Health technology”, where he research how to use technologies to improve health, mainly focusing on diabetes type 1 and type 2. He is currently involved in 6 eHealth, mHealth (mobile health), mDiabetes (mobile diabetes), AI (artificial intelligence), and social media projects, and have previously been engaged more than 30 other eHealth/mHealth projects. He has been involved in applying for funding and project management of the majority of these. He is co-manager of the Medical Health Technology group at the Department of Computer Science at UiT.  These involved research on sensor-, smartphone- and smartwatch-based self-help applications and systems for enabling health care systems and personnel to relate to the PGHD. His current research includes the technologies, user needs, user-perception, and medical outcomes of mobile ways of doing disease management. He is currently the main supervisor of one PhD candidate and co-supervise three other PhD candidates, and several master students. Årsand has supervised >50 students on the master/PhD level since 2001. His research projects have generated knowledge about mHealth and eHealth generally, and especially about using mobile self-help tools, such as research app, the Diabetes Diary (downloaded by more than 10.000 users), medical sensors and how to integrate data with health care systems and improvement of decision support systems.
