Gerosion hosted the EU ambassador

Earlier this month Gerosion hosted the EU ambassador to Iceland, Lucie Samcova-Hall Allen, at their facility in Árleynir.

The focus of the visit was to be discussing the climate & energy framework in Europe together with research and innovation on materials and battery technologies, supporting the Europen Green Deal and Gerosion’s associated EU-funded projects. Dr. Jan Prikryl and Dr. Kristjan F. Alexandersson presented the GEOSUMAT project on behalf of the whole consortium. This then led to valuable discussions on topics such as the geopolitical situation in Europe including raw material resources, associated environmental problems and problems related to public acceptance of new technologies. The importance of the circular economy and sustainable utilization of materials was highlighted and challenges associated with finding new purposes for current waste materials. Furthermore, the Gerosion team presented work on developing carbon-neutral products for civil engineering applications within GEOSUMAT. Samples of geopolymer composites integrating waste materials were presented, and this material science approach demonstrates a perfect fit concerning the big picture and the long-term aims of the EU on sustainability.
