Last dates for course registration and registration for examination are September 1 for the fall semester, and February 1 for the spring semester.
PhD students or holders of a Norwegian master´s degree of five years or 3+ 2 years (or equivalent) may be admitted (categories 3 and 4 above). PhD students must upload a document from their university stating that they are registered PhD students. This group of applicants does not have to prove English proficiency and are exempt from semester fee.
Holders of a Master´s degree must upload a Master´s Diploma with Diploma Supplement / English translation of the diploma. Applicants from listed countries must document proficiency in English. To find out if this applies to you see the following list: Proficiency in English must be documented - list of countries.
For more information on accepted English proficiency tests and scores, as well as exemptions from the English proficiency tests, please see the following document: Proficiency in English - PhD level studies.
The course will be cancelled if less than five participants.
The students will be introduced to modern techniques in the elements of geometric modeling with emphasis on practical methods and mathematical theory. The course will concentrate of the areas; computer aided geometric design (CAGD) and computational geometry. In addition, the PhD student will, through a practical project, develop skills in applying the methods and the theory.
The course has a practical part, and students are supposed to develop, use and test algorithms in the areas; Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD) and Computational Geometry, in engineering applications.
The course start with a theoretical framework; Affine, projective and Grassman spaces, homogenous coordinates, parametric curves and surfaces, basis functions and differentiation. It continuous with surfaces of revolution, surface by sweeping, boolean sum surfaces, algorithms for Bezier-methods and blending methods, General Expo-Rational B-Splines - ERBS / BFBS, introduction to barycentric coordinates and triangular surfaces.
