About the course
In 2024, the subject is reserved for the PhD candidates hired in the projects FUTURES4Fish and AFO-JIGG, to induce practical experience and team building in the CRAFT Research group. Other students and researchers affiliated with the CRAFT Research group may receive a certificate of completion.
The course aims to facilitate intercultural and interdisciplinary team building across the projects FUTURES4Fish and AFO-JIGG (and other projects that are part of the CRAFT Research Group portfolio) in a participatory research context related to life on the coast.

Objectives of the course
Knowledge:
- -define interdisciplinary and participatory research in comparison with other forms of research
- identify specific roles in an interdisciplinary team/group
- discuss the steps of an interdisciplinary research process
- discuss the processes of participatory research
- discuss cultural dimensions and their roles in the functioning of an inter-cultural research team/group
- critically analyze examples of interdisciplinary research topics, theories, methodologies, and concepts that are relevant across the course participants, using also a critical perspective
Skills:
- integrate hands on experience of at least one industrial or cultural activity within personal development
- assess own role in an interdisciplinary team/group
- apply the steps in the interdisciplinary, participatory research
- critically assess own cultural profile, using comparative methodology
- implement a small project in collaboration with a stakeholder
General competence:
- be familiar with coastal industries and cultural activities
- build effective interdisciplinary teams/groups
- create cultural bridges in the multi-cultural teams/groups
- organize interdisciplinary research in a participatory context

- Safety course (Arcos or equivalent): 25 hours
- Participation in at least one excursion
- Participation in all lectures, seminars, workshops, and peer-teaching. Exceptional absence must be approved by the lecturer in advance.
