MBI-3017 Advanced methods in experimental biomedicine - 10 ECTS

Type of course

The course is a course for students accepted to the Master´s program in Biomedicine, but is also open for single course students who meet the admission requirements.

Admission requirements

The course can be taken as a singular course by students with a Bachelor´s degree in Biomedicine or similar (180 ECTS).

Recommended prerequisites: Basic knowledge at University Bachelor level in biomedicine.

The minimum average grade requirement is:

C - for bachelor's degree or equivalent issued in Europe, Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand

B - for bachelor's degree or equivalent issued in all other countries

Course content

The course includes training and critical reflection of relevant methods and techniques for biomedical research. The students will be trained in scientific methods through setting goals, planning, performing experiments and evaluate the results, including reflections of improvements. Students will also be introduced to innovation in biomedicine.

Objectives of the course

Knowledge

  • explain the theory of given methods and techniques
  • explain the selected methods/techniques with emphasis on their usefulness and limitations in biomedical research
  • identify and discuss caveats related to methods/techniques used in biomedical research

Skills

  • perform the given methods and discuss the results obtained
  • write report including a proper discussion of results obtained
  • design and execute controlled experiments to address relevant research questions

General proficiency

  • analyze and discuss research methods in biomedicine
  • communicate the students own scientific work both written and orally, using the relevant scientific language
  • contribute to innovation processes in biomedicine
