Data protection officer at UiT The Arctic University of Norway

As of 27 March 2026, the Data Protection Officer at UiT will be SIKT’s Data Protection Officer Services.

The current Data Protection Officer, Annikken Steinbakk, will be on leave from 27 March 2026 and for one year.

During the leave period, Sikt – the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research – will function as the Data Protection Officer for UiT. Sikt will carry out the DPO responsibilities in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UiT’s needs during this period.

All inquiries related to the Data Protection Officer function must be directed to Sikt while the leave is in effect.

The data protection officer shall:

  • inform and advise UiT as the controller and the employees who carry out processing of personal data, about their obligations pursuant to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (EU 2016/679)

  • monitor compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation and the University’s policies in relation to the protection of personal data, including the assignment of responsibilities and training of staff involved in processing operations

  • provide advice where requested as regards the data protection impact assessment (DPIA)  and monitor its performance

  • cooperate with and be the contact person for the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet)

Data subjects (for example students, employees and respondents in research and student projects) may contact the data protection officer with regard to all issues related to processing of their personal data and to the exercise of their rights under the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.

The data protection officer is bound by secrecy or confidentially concerning the performance of his tasks.
