Førsteamanuensis

Stillingsbeskrivelse

Berit Kristoffersen is an associate professor in political science at the Department of Social Sciences and the Arctic Centre for Sustainable Energy (ARC) at UiT. She leads the research project RENEW (connected to Smart Senja) and ARC’s research on society and ethics. She is a political geographer by training and is especially interested in resource geopolitics and energy transition in the Arctic.  She is working on developing methods for co-creation across sites in Arctic Norway, where ongoing fieldwork with master/PhD students include Longyearbyen, Finnmark, Lofoten and Senja. She is especially interested in drawing lessons across sites and scales, i.e. social acceptance and meaningful engagement in Arctic communities as well as supply-side climate politics at the national scale, measures that are both important for realizing the Paris agreement. Her PhD was on territorial and political strategies for opening up the Norwegian Arctic for oil and gas production, which is an ongoing research subject.

Her research contributions have included work on state space, critical geopolitics, climate change and energy politics. Her work has been published in journal such as Geoforum, Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers, Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space, and Energy Research and Social Sciences.
