Master's Thesis in Geosciences
About the course
The course is solely for students on the Master in Geosciences - master (2-year) and is not available to any other category of students as a singular or elective course. Normally, the master thesis can not be done in groups of students. Students who are admitted to the master's programme normally choose a project in the course at the latest one month before the end of the second semester. i.e. normally, at the latest in May in the second semester for those students who were admitted in the previous autumn semester. A supervision contract should be delivered 2 weeks after the student have started on the master project.
Master's Thesis in Geosciences. The professional content will depend on the profile of the chosen paper. Contact the Department of Geosciences no later than in the end of the second semester of the study. The master thesis project has to be approved by the department's program board according to an application in the form of a supervision contract along with a project description. The master's thesis has to be written in English or Norwegian / Scandinavian.Schedule
The schedules are normally finalized and published well in advance of the start of the semester, often a few weeks beforehand. This gives students the opportunity to organize their studies and prepare for upcoming activities.
It is recommended to check the schedule regularly, as changes may occur.

Re-sit examination
Failure and new master’s examination:
a) The master’s thesis may only be resubmitted in a revised form if the candidate is awarded the grade F (fail). The deadline for resubmitting the thesis in a revised form is three months after the result was announced to the candidate for master’s theses with a scope of 60 credits.
b) In cases where a student receives F (fail) a second time, he/she must apply to the relevant programme board to be allocated a new thesis topic. The new master’s thesis must be substantially different from the previous thesis. The programme board must check that the new thesis satisfies this requirement.
c) A new master’s thesis topic will only be allocated once.
d) Applications for dispensation from the rule stipulating that a student may only sit the same examination three times, which is regulated by Section 25 of the Regulations for examination at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, shall be processed by the relevant programme board. In cases where dispensation is granted, the candidate must submit the last allocated thesis topic in revised form.
