The soil reading group welcomes to the screening of 'Cultivating Abundance– Away from Monoculture' by Åsa Sonjasdotter

The film Cultivating Abundance– Away from Monoculture (2022) by artist, researcher, writer and curator Åsa Sonjasdotter enquires the ethical and aesthetical relations to cultivated plants entailed by the so-called 'modern' and 'traditional' methods of plant breeding. The film revisits archived photographs and moving images which documented the very first iterations of monoculture plant breeding in Sweden, which then became common practice in the global seed industry. Tracing these events through the soil, Sonjasdotter also looks into local initiatives working for regenerating and restoring peasant-bred grains.

You find more information on the film maker, the film itself and an accompanying essay here.

We will watch the film first (probably starting around 13:15) and then have time for discussion.

All are welcome, also if you simply want to watch the film.

If you are further interested in regenerative farming, the Podcast series Cereals (and Good Bread, Landed and Soil) from Farmerama are great materials to listen to! You find the podcast on different podcast apps or on their website.
