The UIT research groups CRAFT and the network ENCODE invite you to a screening of the science fiction movie Paprika (Japan 2006) by Satoshi Kon, at Verdensteatret Cinematek on Tuesday March 18 from 17:30.
The brief career of the late Satoshi Kon has left us with some of the finest and most influential films in all of anime. Paprika (2006) is his vision of a device that allows entry into another person's dreams. The film shows the intersection between speculative future technology and the unchanging nature of human dreams, and raises questions about the ethics of privacy and the boundless possibilities of personal reinvention in cyberspace.
Aside from conceptually inspiring Christopher Nolan's Inception (2010), Nolan's film features many nods to Kon's lush, fantastical imagery and editing cuts, skills at their height in Paprika 's dream logic plot.
The event will start with an introduction by CRAFT researcher Zoheb Mashiur, and end with a discussion with the audience. Please feel free to stay once the lights go back on!
The screening of Paprika is the 14th in a series of films on future imaginaries and technologies presented by CRAFT and ENCODE in cooperation with Verdensteatret Cinematek.
