Better Balance in Informatics (BBI) is hosting a womENcourage pre-event in September

Welcome to a celebration of women in computer science! In connection to the digital womENcourage-conference we are hosting a physical event in Tromsø 21.-22nd of September. This pre-event is a great opportunity for networking within the Norwegian computer science community.

We welcome students on all levels, Ph.D.-fellows, post-docs, and all academic staff to join us in celebrating women in computer science 21.-22nd of Septemeber!

Better Balance in Informatics (UiT) and IDUN (NTNU) are hosting this event in Tromsø. On Tuesday 21st of September we offer networking opportunities and workshops. Thematically this day will focus on the importance of recruting more women to computer science, and how to succeed at this. We end the day with a wonderfull dinner for all the participants. On the 22nd of September participants can choose to follow the digital workshops of womENcourage. Thereafter we take lunch together, before following the official opening of the digital conference.

We encourage participation from all genders.

womENcourage is the 8th ACM Celebration of women in computing, and this years event is taking place digitally from Prague (22.-24th of September). Registration to follow this event is mandatory. We kindly ask that you upload confirmation of your womENcourage registration in our registration form. Registration fees will be reimbursed.

11:30 Madness session (1-min talks)

Madness sessions are built upon short one minute talks from each participant. Each speaker is allowed one power-point slide where they introduce themselfs (name, affiliation, research interest), so that the one minute talk can be focused on their topic. This is a great format for networking, where brief presentations can be followed by longer conversations between participants during the conference.

Note that Letizia Jaccheri (IDUN/BBI) will be hosting an online tutorial on at 9AM: Attracting, retaining, encouraging, and inspiring women to pursue a career in Computer Science -a Norwegian best practice.

You must be registered to the digital womENcourage conferecne to follow this tutorial.

How do I register?

To register for the physical event in Tromsø please use this link: Registration

Registrations are open until the 23rd of August.

All participants are asked to contribute a poster OR a one-minute talk to be presentend on the 21st of September. We will run a 'Madness session' for the talks, followed by a poster and mingling session. For the 'Madness session' we ask that you upload one single power-point slide with your name, affiliation, topic and contact info (to be shown while you conduct your talk). Your talk or poster can be on any topic related to your work or diversity in computer science.

Please remember to also register for the digital womENcourage, the 8th AMC celebration of women in science. Early registrations end on 20th of July.

You are yourself responsible for booking flights and hotel. There are rooms available at the main venue, Radisson Blu Hotel Tromsø. Use this link for booking.

Participants contributing to the conference with a poster or a one-minute talk will be eligible for reimbursement (womENcourage conference fee, flights and up to two hotel nights). You will receive information on how to apply for reimbursment in your acceptance lettere.

If the capacity of the conference venue is reached, or we have to limit the number of participants due to corona infection risk guidelines changing, early registrations will have priority.
