Power relations and lack of gender balance in academia. What are the challenges and how do we react?

Anna Wahl was a pioneer in the field of gender research on management in Sweden. She initiated the research group Fosfor that has been leading in the development of gender theory in the area of organization and management in the Nordic context. Her main research areas of interest are power relations in organizations related to processes of change and resistance, constructions of masculinities, women’s survival strategies and gendered organizational cultures.

Joining us in conversation with Wahl will be associate professor Melina Duarte and professor Kenneth Ruud from the PRESTIGE project. The project has a twofold goal: (1) advance knowledge on gendered quality assessments and implicit biases by uncovering how they impact career opportunities and the distribution of power and resources in research; (2) promote research-based organizational changes at the UiT by creating mechanisms for fostering gender balance in top positions.


The event will be hosted by phd's Naima El Bani Altuna and Stephan Höpfl from the JEDI (justice, equity, diversity and inclusion) group at the Department of Geosciences. 

The event is arranged by CAGE Center for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Environment and Climate, Gender Equality and Diversity Committee at UiT and JEDI.
