Patient stories in Context

International conference on patients stories in context,at the University in Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway (UiT), Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education, january 23–24, 2017
 

The interdisciplinary Nordic research group "Health, Art and Society" (HAS) at the University of Tromsø is pleased to announce the international conference "Patient stories in context".

The conference will take place on Monday 23rd January and Tuesday 24th January 2017, at the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education, UiT. The conference is situated in the Lower Pavilion (see map)

The international and interdisciplinary conference, entitled Patient stories in context enlightens illness narratives in a literary, sociological, medical and healthcare perspective. The conference will focus on patient stories both as a unique literary genre and as potential contributors to a more patient-centered medicine and healthcare. 

Keynote speakers

Molly Andrews
is professor of Political Psychology and Co-Director of the Centre for Narrative Research at the University of East London. She has a special interest in the intersection of individual biography and society and focuses in her research on people's perception of the political world and their role within it. Read more here 

Anne Kveim Lie
is associeate professor at the Institute of Health and Society, University of Oslo. She has a background in medicine and intellectual history and works on the history of medicine from 18th century until today. Her research interests include the political and rhetorical aspects of conceptions of illness. Read more here


Matías Martínez
is professor of German Literature at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and member of the board of the Zentrum für Erzählforschung (http://www.zef.uni-wuppertal.de/home/home.html) His research interest lies in narratology and narrative analyse and he focuses amongst others on the relation between story-telling and reality, fiction and facts.
