KJE-3303 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance - 10 ECTS

Theoretical and practical subject. The course is available as a singular or elective course independent of study program, also to exchange students and free-movers. The course is offered on condition that a minimum number of students register for the course.

Course content

The course is based on KJE-3301 Organic chemistry II and will present the basis of nuclear magnetic resonance is treated. Factors influencing chemical shifts and spin-spin coupling are discussed. Analysis of spectra and the use of 1H NMR and 13C NMR for determining molecular structures are treated. New and established methods for recording NMR spectra (including 2D-NMR) will be presented.

Language of instruction and examination

The language of instruction is English and all of the syllabus material is in English. Examination questions will be given in English, and may be answered in either English or a Norwegian/Scandinavian language.

Teaching methods

Lectures: 20 h Seminars/exercises: 40 h

Assessment

Grades based on a final, 4h written examination. Lettergrades (A-F).
