Focal Point North: Network, indigenous institutions and knowledge production.

“Focal Point North” is a project that combines education, research and networking among institutions in the North. The Centre for Sami Studies functions as the hub of the network. A pilot period of the project has been funded through the Tromsø Research Foundation (Tromsø forskningsstiftelse), and the main project is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its Barents 2020 programme.

The academic basis for Focal Point North is the current development in the Arctic, where we witness extensive changes due to globalization, climate change and conflicts related to the exploitation of resources. Three areas will be central to the project:

- Revitalization and encounters between peoples
- Resource exploitation and rights
- Climate policy and institutions
