Wine & Science evening at the Museum
Successful outreach evening "Vin og Viten"
From the announcement of the evening:
Did you know that as much as half of the organisms on the planet could be parasites? Parasitism—living on or within another living organism—is one of the best survival strategies ithat exists.
Welcome to an evening where we explore the fascinating role parasitic organisms play on land and in water, and how they can impact the ecosystems they live in. Several researchers will present their work on parasites:
🔹 Christian Selbach (Department of Arctic and Marine Biology, UiT) will discuss how the fear of parasites can affect ecosystems (Note: This presentation will be in English).
🔹 Rebecca Davidson (Veterinary Institute): "Parasites in a Warmer Climate, with Examples from Reindeer and Arctic Fox".
🔹 Andreas Altenburger (Norwegian Arctic University Museum) will talk about sea urchin parasites.
🔹 Bastian Fromm (Norwegian Arctic University Museum) works on the development and evolution of parasites, exploring what we call changes in genome and morphology.
The evening will start with a general introduction to what parasites are by Bastian Fromm. Per Helge Nylund from the museum will guide us through the evening, and the audience will be invited to ask questions.
The event is part of the Wednesday at the Museum series and Research Days 2024. Admission is free.
