Microbial life of Sea ice Habitats Investigated For The Arctic

Micro-SHIFT joins first Polhav2050 expedition on RV Kronprins Haakon

Studying  microorganisms of the High Arctic

The ambitious 50-day expedition on RV Kronprins Haakon traverses the central Arctic Ocean from July-September, 2026. Several iSI-Bio and Micro-SHIFT researchers have joined the expedition to study the diversity and productivity of sea ice microorganisms during this melting season.

Sampling kicks off at the North Pole. Team members (left-right): Emelia Chamberlain (Postdoctoral Researcher), Rosalie McKay (PhD student), Anna Miettinen (PhD Student) and Patricia Mrazek (PhD Student).
