Falk-Andersson har de siste ti årene vært med på å dokumentere at avkapp fra bøting er et stort miljøproblem langs norskekysten og på Svalbard. Både fiskeriteknologer og fiskere har bidratt til denne kunnskapen som startet med en workshop på Svalbard i 2016. Siden har avkapp fra bøting blitt dokumentert på strender flere steder i Europa og i Norge har havnæringene bidratt til å sette dette på agendaen. Dette er et godt eksemple på hvordan samarbeid mellom forskere og industri kan bidra til å bedre forstå en miljøutfordring, samt i felleskap finne bærekraftige løsninger. AVKAPP vil både ha nytte av og bidra til PAME sitt arbeid med å redusere mengden avkapp som havner på havet. I fellesskap vil vi sette fokus på et problem som ikke bare er begrenset til Arktis og Europa, men også er en kjent problemstilling globalt. Ikke minst, vil vi bidra til løsninger som vil sikre et rent og rikt hav. 

AVKAPP was represented at PAME's workshop to improve waste management of fishing gear

Jannike Falk-Andersson participated in PAME's workshop focused on cut.offss from net repairs. The workshop brought together researchers, the fishing industry, and policymakers to better understand the challenges of waste management and identify knowledge gaps.

Over the past ten years, Falk-Andersson has been involved in documenting that cut-offs from net repairs are a significant environmental issue along the Norwegian coast and at Svalbard. Both fisheries technologists and fishermen have contributed to this knowledge, which began with a workshop in Svalbard in 2016. Since then, cut-offs from net repairs have been documented on beaches in various parts of Europe and in Norway the maine industries have helped bring this issue to the forefront. This is a great example of how collaboration between researchers and industry can contribute to a better understanding of an environmental challenge and, together, find sustainable solutions.

AVKAPP will both benefit from and contribute to PAME's efforts to reduce the amount of cut-offs ending up in the ocean. Together, we will focus on an issue that is not only limited to the Arctic and Europe but is also a recognized global challenge. Most importantly, we will contribute to solutions that ensure a clean and healthy ocean.
