Monitoring of large rockslides
Risk reduction by use of monitoring and early warning is relatively new in Norway, and started in 2004 with the investigation and monitoring of the Åknes rockslide in western Norway. This caused an increased attention on monitoring of large landslides, and the unstable rockslopes at Nordnesfjellet in Kåfjord were implemented in the period from 2006 until today. The risk is due to the generation of large tsunami waves that will travel long distances, and the monitoring is today a critical basis for inhabitant’s safety in the tsunami run-up zones.
The presentation will give an overview of the concepts of monitoring and early warning, with a special focus on the investigations and monitoring performed on the Jettan rockslide in Kåfjord.
Welcome everyone!
