Battle for the North: Is all quiet on the Arctic front?
To av forskerne ved Det juridiske fakultet deltar på konferansen "Battle for the North: Is all quiet on the Arctic front?" som finner sted ved Michigan State University 21-22. februar i år.
Det er en internasjonal årlig rettsvitenskapskonferanse hvor temaet er rettsspørsmål i Arktis. Temaene er klimaendringer, styringssett, havrett, miljø og shipping, urfolksrett, utnyttelse av naturressurser i arktiske strøk og sikkerhetspolitikk i nord.
Arrangørene sier dette om innholdet i årets symposium: This symposium will highlight the current concerns and questions surrounding the Arctic. The event will raise awareness of and encourage discussion about various topics such as: international security concerns; indigenous people in the Arctic region; environmental law; regulation, governance and management of Arctic lands and resources; exploration, exploitation, and transportation of oil, gas, and minerals; and the law of the sea.
Tematikken som tas opp på denne konferansen er i kjernen av Det juridiske fakultet i Tromsøs satsingsområder, og det er derfor viktig å synliggjøre fakultetets forskning i slike fora. Ingvild Jakobsen skal holde et foredrag om “The Adequacy of the Law of the Sea and International Environmental Law to the Arctic Ocean” og Susann F. Skogvang skal holde et foredrag om “Legal Questions Regarding Mineral Exploration and Exploitation in Indigenous Areas: Examples from Sami Areas in Norway”.
