IFC vedtok 30. april 2006 to policydokument:
- the Policy and Performance Standards on Social and Environmental Sustainability (the Sustainability Policy and Performance Standards), and
- the Policy on Disclosure of Information (the Disclosure Policy)
IFC har i halvannet år arbeidet med å revidere disse policydokumentene; både Performance standards og Guidance notes.Spørsmål om FPIC i disse dokumentene diskuteres og S. James Anaya, (United Nations Special Rapporteur
on the rights of indigenous peoples) har kommentert utkastene.

Norge har vært medlem av IFC siden 1956 (jf. IFC fakta-ark om Norge (2006):
IFC and Norway cooperate in offering technical and advisory assistance to companies and governments in the developing world with the aim of reducing poverty through private sector growth. IFC’s partners are the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its directorate, the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation.
Norway partners with IFC in Sub-Saharan Africa; East Asia and the Pacific; South Asia; and Europe and Central Asia to enhance the capacity of the private sector, and in particular small and medium enterprises. In Sub-Saharan Africa, moreover, this work also focuses on helping African companies become more sustainable and competitive by sourcing and providing experienced managers and client-specific training to local work forces. In Europe and Central Asia, cooperation also focuses on conducting advisory work in the area of structuring and implementing public-private partnerships in infrastructure.
