Forskningsetisk utvalg ved Universitetet i Tromsø har kommet frem til at det ikke er grunnlag for å konkludere med forskningsjuks.
Det ble i november 2008 reist tvil om forskningsdata i en artikkel som inngår i en doktorgrad fra Universitetet i Tromsø på midten av 1990-tallet. UiT forela saken for Forskningsetiske utvalg som nå har sluttført arbeidet.
Forskningsetisk utvalg har vurdert om det foreligger brudd på forskningetiske prinsipp i forhold til doktoravhandlingen, og uttaler at det ikke er grunnlag for å konkludere med forskningsjuks:
- Utvalget har ikke funnet grunnlag for å konkludere med at vedkommende forsker har forfalska eller fabrikkert sine resultat i studien som var grunnlag for artikkelen for doktorgraden. Og utvalget har heller ikke funnet forhold som tyder på at det har vært uheldig økonomisk binding mellom UiT eller tilsette ved UiT, og eksterne parter, uttaler leder av Forskningsetisk utvalg, Aage-Thor Falkanger.
- Forskningsetisk utvalg har hatt en meget grundig gjennomgang av saken, sier Universitetsdirektør Lasse Lønnum som er glad for at saken nå er avklart.

Inquiry into PhD Degree
The Research Ethics Committee at the University of Tromsø has concluded that allegations of scientific misconduct are unfounded.
In November 2008 questions were raised concerning research data presented in a scientific article which was part of a PhD degree awarded by the University of Tromsø in the middle of the 1990s. The University submitted the issue to its Research Ethics Committee, which has now concluded their inquiry.
The University of Tromsø's Research Ethics Committee has considered whether breach of research ethical principles has occurred in connection with the relevant PhD thesis, and has concluded that allegations of scientific misconduct are unfounded.
- The Committee has found no reason to conclude that the researcher in question has falsified or fabricated the research results in the study which formed the basis of the article presented for the PhD degree. Further, the Committee has found no indications of irregular economic relations between the University or University employees and external parties, states Professor Aage Thor Falkanger, chairman of the Committee.
- The Research Ethics Committee has conducted a very thorough inquiry into this issue, says University Director Lasse Lønnum, who is pleased that the matter has now been resolved.
