Guest lecture Tuesday November 26th, 2024: PhD student Jules Bangard, University of Strasbourg

We are excited to announce that Jules Bangard (https://bangard.xyz/), on Tuesday November 26th, 2024 will be giving a guest lecture titled Statistical Algorithms for the detection of drug cocktails' adverse events. Bangard is a phd student at the University of Strasbourg doing research on algorithms for detecting adverse events attributable to the use of drugs in combination.

The lecture will be held in person in Store Auditorium B302 at Realfagbygget.

Abstract
Clinical trial phases, crucial for the approval of drug marketing, are often limited in size and diversity of medical profiles (children, immunocompromised individuals, etc.). Despite their importance, these trials may fail to reveal certain side effects that only emerge after prolonged use. This gap highlights the necessity of pharmacovigilance, which aims to monitor the risks of adverse events post-marketing. This presentation will introduce a Monte Carlo Markov Chain (MCMC) algorithm and a genetic algorithm for detecting high-risk drug interactions using pharmacovigilance data (in particular the FAERS data from the Food & Drug Administration.
