Stillingsbeskrivelse

Professor Tiina Ikäheimo har omfattende kunnskap innen forskning knyttet til påvirkning av miljøtemperaturer på menneskers ytelse og helse supplert med forskning knyttet til trening og helse. Hennes forskningserfaring inkluderer disipliner som yrkes-, miljø- og folkehelse, samt treningsvitenskap. Hun er PI og samarbeidspartner i flere forskningsprosjekter knyttet til klima og helse og ledende nettverk som forstår beredskap og bygger støtte til arktiske arbeidsplasser i skiftende klima. Hun er kursleder i epidemiologi og forskningsmetoder, og underviser i kurs knyttet til Global Public Health. Hun veileder doktorgrads- og masterstudenter.

    Forskningsinteresser

    De viktigste forskningsinteressene til professor Ikäheimo har fokusert på effektene av miljøtemperatur og klimaendringer på menneskers helse. Forskningen hennes innebærer å identifisere klimasensitive befolkningsgrupper og forstå mekanismene bak deres sårbarheter. Dette har medført å gjennomføre både befolknings- og laboratoriestudier. For tiden leder professor Ikäheimo nettverk av nordiske arbeidshelseeksperter som tar sikte på å forstå beredskapen og behovene til arktiske utendørsarbeidsplasser i det skiftende klimaet. Hun deltar også i et EU Horizon Health-konsortium (Trigger) som tar sikte på å forstå effektene av klimaendringer på kardiovaskulær og respiratorisk helse og bygge midler for å tilpasse seg det endrede klimaet. Professor Ikäheimo har også hatt en langsiktig interesse for forskning som undersøker determinanter for fysisk aktivitet og helse.

    Spesifikke pågående forskningstemaer:

    • Kardiovaskulære responser på kortvarig kulde- og varmeeksponering blant personer med type 2 diabetes og hypertensjon
    • Beredskap og behov på arktiske utendørsarbeidsplasser i skiftende klima
    • Omgivelsestemperaturer, luftforurensning og sykehusinnleggelser knyttet til hjerte- og karsykdommer og luftveissykdommer
    • Bybygde og naturlige miljøer og luftveisinfeksjoner
    • Vær, målt fysisk aktivitet og helse

    Undervisning

    Professor Ikäheimo underviser i epidemiologi og forskningsmetoder, folkehelsearbeid, vitenskapsformidling, samt holder foredrag knyttet til miljø og arbeidshelse i Arktis. Hun veileder studenter på master- og doktorgradsnivå.
