Arctic Bioanalytical Platform

Our bioanalytical platform consists of a wide range of instrumentation and techniques which allow us to identify, isolate, and characterise novel bioactive compounds.

With a focus on metabolites from marine organisms, among other objectives, our group works towards the discovery of new antibiotic compounds. The isolation of compounds is achieved with a combination of semi-preparative HPLC-DAD fractionation, and metabolite identification via ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to a diode array detector and high resolution mass spectrometer (UHPLC-DAD-QTOF-MS).

Our large range of different analytical and preparative columns allow us to implement various modes of separation, including reversed phase, normal phase, HILIC, and size exclusion, resulting in the ability to investigate metabolites with a wide range chemical characteristics.The biological activity of these marine metabolites and extracts are determined by our various bioassays. These bioassays are used to monitor HPLC-DAD fractionation, access activity of purified compounds, and to investigate the mode-of-action of the compounds.
