In terms of overall PoC results for 2016, 133 ERC grantees were awarded Proof of Concept funding over three rounds of competition.
Background
The ERC Proof of Concept scheme is designed to “maximise the value of the excellent research that the ERC funds, by funding further work (i.e. activities which were not scheduled to be funded by the original ERC frontier research grant) to verify the innovation potential of ideas arising from ERC funded projects.” Only PIs who have an on-going ERC frontier research grant or have a grant that ended less than 12 months before the opening date of the call are eligible. Project must draw substantially on their ERC funded research, and the funding provided is directed to cover activities at the very early stage of turning research outputs into a commercial or socially valuable proposition, i.e. the initial steps of pre-competitive development. Proof of concept grants are a maximum of €150,000 funding for a period of up to 18 months.
