Stillingsbeskrivelse
I am a Professor of Industrial Engineering at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and Programme Leader of the MSc in Industrial Engineering. My research focuses on smart and sustainable logistics in Industry 5.0, with particular expertise in digital logistics twins, human–AI collaboration, and data-driven decision-support systems for reverse logistics and circular manufacturing. By integrating optimization, simulation, AI, and automation, my work aims to design human-centric intelligent logistics and manufacturing systems that improve sustainability, efficiency, and resilience. I also work on Generative AI in engineering and logistics education, developing innovative teaching and assessment approaches for AI-enabled learning environments. I am the Editor of the book Smart Logistics in Industry 5.0 and currently serve as Associate Editor for IEEE TITS, as well as Editorial Board Member for several international journals. I have secured over NOK 15 million in competitive research funding as Principal Investigator, including the RCN's prestigious FRIPRO, and have been recognized among the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists worldwide and ScholarGPS top 0.5% researchers in logistics.

Forskningsinteresser
I am a Professor and Programme Leader of Industrial Engineering (MSc) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. My research interests are real-problem-driven model development and applied operations research to solve complex decision-making problems in sustainable supply chain, reverse logistics, location and network design, service systems, scheduling, and smart logistics in Industry 4.0/5.0. These optimization/simulation models can be used to minimize carbon footprints and environmental risks of logistics systems and supply chains, to improve the service level and cost efficiency of postal service networks, to locate the charging stations for electric/hydrogen vehicles, to autonomously configure reconfigurable manufacturing systems, to improve the lockage efficiency of a water conservancy project, and so forth. My research focuses on the combination of predictive analytics, prescriptive analytics, and descriptive analytics in an Industry 5.0 enabled Smart Digital Logistics Twin that can be used in, for example, reverse logistics, humanitarian/epidemic logistics, and reconfigurable remanufacturing systems.
I have led or been a key member of several projects funded by Norway and EU programs. My current project includes:
1, Industry 5.0 enabled Smart Logistics: A Global Perspective (2023-2026), funded by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) under the UTFORSK program (PI).
2, Digital Reverse Logistics Twin 5.0 (DigiRL 5.0): Enabling Human-Centricity in Data-Driven Decision-Making and Flexible Automation (2026-2029), funded by the Research Council of Norway under the Researcher Project for Young Talents (FRIPRO) program (PI).
3, Advancing the Education of Engineers Through AI for Cyber-Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Union (2025-2026), funded by the Nordplus program.
My research has had a broad impact, with bibliometric indicators recognizing me among the Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists (Industrial Engineering & Automation) and ranking me in the Top 0.5% of Researchers by ScholarGPS (Logistics). I am a member of the EURO Working Group on Sustainable Supply Chain (EWGSSC), the EURO Working Group on Location Analysis (EWGLA), and the EURO Working Group on Practice of OR. I am the editor of the book Smart Logistics in Industry 5.0 (CRC Press) and currently serve as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems (IEEE) and the World Journal of Engineering (Emerald), and as Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Environment & Development (Sage), Discover Sustainability (Springer Nature), Science Progress (Sage), Logistics (MDPI), Eng (MDPI), among others. In addition, I frequently review for 60+ international journals, including Nature Communications, Environmental Science & Technology, Environmental Research, Journal of Cleaner Production, Omega, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, Computers & Operations Research, Annals of Operations Research, Computers & Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematical Modelling, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Production Research, Transportation Research Part C, D, and E, and Engineering Optimization, among others.
