Anne-Merethe Hanssen

Anne-Merethe Hanssen (PhD) er professor i mikrobiologi ved Institutt for medisinsk biologi (IMB) i forskningsgruppe Vert-Mikrobe Interaksjoner (HMI).
Forskningen hennes omfatter studier av interaksjon mellom vert og mikrobe, og hovedfokus er bakteriell kolonisering, virulens, patogenese og mikrobiom.
Hanssen undersøker hvilke faktorer bakterien Staphylococcus aureus (gule stafylokokker) har og uttrykker ved kolonisering av nesen og halsen. Vi bruker bl.a. genomikk og transkriptomikk for å identifisere hvilke gener bakterien har og utrykker i møte med verten. De bakterielle faktorene som identifiseres blir så analysert videre med hensyn på ulike egenskaper som adhesjon, invasivitet og immune evasion. Målet er å utvikle terapeutiske og diagnostiske strategier for å hindre kolonisering og behandle bakterielle infeksjoner.
Hanssen underviser bl.a. i medisinsk mikrobiologi ved Bioingeniørutdanningen.
