Fieldwork projects last 10 years
I have worked with Arctic and Sámi archaeology since 1981, conducting 1- 3 months of fieldwork every summer. Over the last 10 years my fieldwork has been divided between investigating WW2, industrial, and Sami sites in northernmost Norway, Russia and Iceland. Here are the most important: 2011-2022; Sværtholt, Norway, leader of excavations of WW2 prisoner-of-war camp and coastal fort; 2012-2013, Steintjørn, Norway, leader of excavation of Sámi hearth row sites (AD 1000-1300), 2015-2019; Teriberka; Dalnie Zelentsy and Nikel, Russia; leader of investigation of persistent Soviet materiality, its presence and impact; 2018-2023, Pasvik, Norway, leader of surveys and excavations investigating Skolt Sámi displacement and resilience.
