Target group for this seminar is master level students. Exchange students and motivated bachelor students in computer science may in certain cases take the seminar if they have the recommended prerequisites to take it. Recommended prerequisites for this seminar is INF-2201 Operating system fundamentals and INF-2301 Computer communication and security, or equivalent.

Accociate Professor Anders Andersen, Department of computer science (UiT) will be responsible for the course. A significant part of the lectures will be given by Senior Researcher Arne Munch-Ellingsen, Telenor Tromsø. The language of instruction is English and all of the syllabus material is in English.

Course content
The course gives in-depth knowledge on developing software for UICC, NFC and their infrastructure. It includes developing applets for UICC smart cards, NFC communication protocols, applications on the host device (mobile phone), some infrastructure for such applications, and the interaction (protocols) between these application components.

Objective of the course

Knowledge; students should get

  • extensive knowledge on UICC development and its toolsets
  • experiences with protocols and tools for interaction with UICC applets
  • extensive knowledge on NFC development and its toolsets
  • in-depth knowledge on limitations and challenges in UICC and NFC development

Skills; students should be able to

  • design, analyze and build UICC and NFC applications
  • integrate UICC and NFC applications in a larger setting with smart phone applications, device interaction, server side services, and telecom infrastructure
  • utilize possible TSM/OTA functionality with UICC applications
  • analyze roles and trust-relations in systems that includes UICC applets and NFC communication

General competence; students should know

  • how to develop and deploy UICC and NFC applications
  • how to interact with UICC applets from smart phone applications (e.g. Android applications)
  • how to interact with NFC devices from smart phone applications (e.g. Android applications)
  • how to interact with NFC devices from UICC applets
  • how to interact with server side and telecom infrastructure from UICC applets
  • how to interact with UICC run time from smart phone applications and infrastructure
  • how to combine UICC applets, NFC devices and their infrastructure in feature rich applications and services

Additional details about the seminar can be found following the URL below. If you have professional / technical questions you can contact Accociate Professor Anders Andersen.

The course will normally consist of lectures / laboratory guidance on a weekly basis.
First lecture: Tuesday January 15th 2013 at 10:15 in A122 (ODS-lab), Science building.
A time table for the seminar is allocated and can be found here:
http://timeplan.uit.no/emne_timeplan.php?year=2013&module%5B%5D=INF-3910-1&week=3-22

The allocated time table will not collide with lectures / study groups for the following computer science courses: INF-2900, INF-3203, INF-3701 or INF-3795.

Registration
Master level students on a 2- or 5-year master program in computer science at UiT must register for the exam through the Studentweb within February 1st 2013. Other categories of students must contact the administration at Department of Computer Science.

PhD students
If this seminar is considered relevant as part of the academic training component for a PhD student the existing course code INF-8810 Ph.d. Special curriculum in Computer science - 10 ECTS can be used. Each PhD-student must use the application form:
