Grants for Norwegian Citizens to the U.S.
- All fields, all accredited universities
- Norwegian citizenship
- Bachelor degree or equivalent

- Amount: NOK 100,000– 150,000 ($18,300 – 27,500) + support from State Educational Loan Fund
- 9 months/one academic year
- Required: Ph.D. or equivalent

Norwegian Teachers in Lower and Upper Secondary Schools
- 6 week ”Summer Institute in American Studies” at a U.S. university.
- Up to four grants each year.
- Application deadline: February.
- All expenses covered.
Norwegian students between 18-20: ”Summer Institutes for European Student Leaders”
- Five week ”Summer Institute” at an American university.
- Up to four grants each year.
- Application deadline: March.
- All expenses covered.
Grants for U.S. Citizens to Norway
- All fields, all accredited universities
- US citizenship
- Preliminary screening by IIE, final screening by Fulbright Board, Norway
- Deadline: Mid-October
- Amount: Approx. NOK 100,000 ($18,300)
- 9 months/one academic year
- Up to two (2) Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) awards to be offered.
- Language: Applicants should be native speakers of English. No knowledge of Norwegian is required.
- Grant duration/period: 10 months, mid-August – June.
- Candidate profile: Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree before the start date of the grant. Preference will be given to applicants in the social sciences, humanities, English language and American studies. Preference will be given to candidates who plan teaching careers in either English or Norwegian .
- Affiliation: Grantees will be placed as teaching assistants at Norwegian secondary or post-secondary schools.
- Dependents: No dependent allowance is available.
US Scholars – ”Regular” Fulbright Program
- Ph.D. or equivalent, all fields
- Initial screening by CIES, final screening by Fulbright Board, Norway
- Grants can be open (All Disciplines Award) or announced in the CIES Awards booklet.
- Amount: From NOK 21,000 ($3,900) per month
- 3-10 months
- Application deadline: August 1
Fulbright Specialists – Short-term Projects
- For US scholars
- Short term (2-6 weeks)
- Application deadline: rolling (2-4 months)
- Specialists sign up for roster, Norwegian host institutions select specialist from roster
- State Department covers honorarium/ travel.
- Host institution covers housing/living costs.
Intercountry Lecturing Grants – Invite a U.S. Fulbright Scholar from another European Country
- Each year approx. 800 U.S. scholars come to Europe on Fulbright grants, who can be invited to lectures, seminars, etc.
- Fulbright Norway pays for travel, host institution pays for room and board.
- 18 European countries participate in the program.
