Incoming exchange students: admission process at a glance!

Inbound exchange students gain admission to UiT The Arctic University of Norway after being nominated by our partner institutions and having completed the application requirements for exchange studies or traineeships.

NOMINATION PERIOD - PARTNER UNIVERSITIES

In order to undertake exchange for studies or traineeships at UiT, there must be a current Institutional Agreement in place between the sending institution and UiT.

Important dates:

  • Nominations for the autumn semester: 15 MARCH (start) - 15 APRIL (deadline)
  • Nominations for the spring semester: 15 SEPTEMBER (start) - 20 OCTOBER (deadline)

APPLICATION SUBMISSION - NOMINATED STUDENTS

After the nomination, the students will receive an invitation email to register their application on the ApplicationWeb (Søknadsweb) and upload the supporting materials for exchange.

APPLICATION SUBMISSION - CHECK FOR DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS

The Inbound Student Exchange Team at UiT will check all submissions for documentary requirements before the start of the recognition and assessment process at the host department of faculty at UiT. Students with incomplete documentation will be notified by email.

Each application submission will be checked for the following: (1) Valid exchange agreement, (2) Correct campus/department affiliation and semester duration, (3) Complete Learning Agreement, (4) Proof of English or Norwegian language proficiency if required, and (5) Valid Transcript of Records with a current list of courses taken at the home university.

COURSE ASSESSMENT & TRAINEESHIP ASSIGMENTS - DEPARTMENTS / FACULTIES

The final outcome of the applications is decided by the host department at the faculties. The exchange coordinators at the respective departments base their decisions regarding admission for exchange on the following:

  • Eligibility for prerequisites requirements for each course outlined in the Learning Agreement (exchange for studies)
  • Availability of places / supervisors for internships, placement and thesis work (Exchange for traineeships).

DECISIONS: ACCEPTANCE LETTER & SIGNED LEARNING AGREEMENT

The Inbound Student Exchange Team at the International Cooperation Section will send "Notification of Admission" by email to all successful students. Acceptance Letter and the signed Learning Agreement will be accessible for download on the Application Web (Søknadsweb).

Decision period:

  • Faculty assessments for the autumn semester: 1 JUNE (start) - 15 JUNE (deadline)
  • Faculty assessments for the spring semester: 1 DECEMBER (start) - 15 DECEMBER (deadline)

ACCEPTING OR DECLINING THE OFFER OF ADMISSION

Successful students: please use your e-mail (username) and password to log into your account on the Application Web (Søknadsweb) to accept your offer of admission within the deadline.

The deadline for accepting or declining the offer of admission is specified in the "Notification of admission" email that was sent to each successful candidate!

STUDENT HOUSING

We urge all exchange students to apply for housing to reserve a room right after they have recieved the invitation email from UiT to complete their applicaiton for exchange.

Students who declined their offer of admission: please make sure to cancel your application for housing to allow students who have accepted their offer of admission to find a place to stay.

Deadline for applying for housing: 31 MAY (for students commencing their exchange in the autumn semester: August to December) and 30 NOVEMBER (for students commencing their exchange in the spring semester: January to June).

NON-EU students (nationals of NON-EU/EEA countries including Liechtenstein and Switzerland): you MUST apply for housing to receive a housing guarantee in your Acceptance Letter. This guarantee is required when you are applying for visa to enter Norway for exchange studies or traineeships!
