    Forskningsinteresser

Heart failure remains a leading cause of death in Norway and worldwide, and despite improved treatment strategies, its prognosis is bleak and quality of life is reduced.  The overall theme of current projects include the contribution of metabolic disease and hypertension to the development of cardiac disease and its progression to heart failure.  At the center of this work are the mitochondria, widely investigated for their role in metabolism, energy production, and in regulation of cell survival systems. This emerging field holds potential for novel therapeutic treatments for cardiovascular diseases. Our goal is translational science and we use an integrated approach of physiology, biochemistry, and advanced imaging to elucidate our research questions.
