Fysiologi er vitenskapen som beskriver hvordan en levende kropp fungerer og som bidrar til vår forståelse av hva som går galt i sykdom.

Min forsknings fokus har vært hjertets patofysiologi og metabolske og mitokondrielle endringer i hjertet når hjertet svikter. Det overordrende målet har vært å studere mekanismene som bidrar til utviklingen av hjertesvikt. 

Nåværende projekter omhandler temaer som metabolsk sykdom, fettlever og høyt blodtrykk. Siden mitokondriene er sentrale for hjertets funksjon og spiller en viktig rolle i cellens metabolske prosesser, studerer vi rollen til mitokondriene under forhold som kan forårsake stress i hjertet. Mitokondrienes rolle i hjertets energimetabolisme, redox-regulering, stress respons og kalsium homeostase er noen av temaene vi undersøker.     We use a translational approach in our studies through physiological and cellular study of the heart. Some examples include:

    • isolated organ perfusion
    • in vivo imaging
    • cellular and molecular imaging
