Maria Sahakyan

Stillingsbeskrivelse

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Artificial Intelligence for Future Healthcare Solutions at the Department of Clinical Medicine, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. My research focuses on the development and application of machine learning, natural language processing, large language models, and explainable artificial intelligence in healthcare and clinical research.

Before joining UiT, I was a Postdoctoral Associate in Computational Social Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, where I led research on bias in peer review using NLP, LLMs, and large-scale statistical modeling. I developed end-to-end text analytics pipelines for analyzing scholarly communication and systemic inequities in science, combining machine learning, text mining, and statistical approaches.

At UiT, my work extends this methodological background into healthcare, with a particular focus on how language, speech, and longitudinal health data can support earlier, more personalized, and more interpretable detection of clinically relevant changes. I am especially interested in AI systems that are not only predictive, but also transparent, clinically meaningful, and responsibly implemented.

My broader research interests include explainable AI, natural language processing, large language models, mental health applications of AI, cognitive decline detection, computational social science, and the ethical and methodological challenges of using AI-based systems in clinical contexts.
