I have experience within the basal research in cardiac metabolism/energetics, and diabetes/obesity, using the isolated working heart set up with a repertoire of experimental biochemical techniques. My area of expertise is measurements of myocardial substrate uptake and oxidation rates as well as assessment of cardiac function and mechanoenergetics in isolated working mouse hearts. In my Post-Doc I was studying cardiac adaptations following intensity controlled treadmill running of rodents with a focus on exercise-induced effects on cardiac function, metabolism and mechanoenergetics in lean and obese models. Lately my focus has been on the ROS producing enzymes: NADPH oxidases and their role redox signalling in the heart. I have been studing their roles in cardiac metabolism, hypertrophic responses, exercise adaptation, in the development of diabetic ventricular and energetic dysfunction and cardiac metabolism. Lately I have gained an interest for cardiotoxicity induced by anticancer therapies and the impact of sex-specific differences in heart failure, and have received funding to investigate the cardiometabolic response to anticancer therapies in cell lines and an animal model.
