Practical Russian 1
About the course
This course is intended for students in the Master's Programme in Russian and Russian studies and the Teacher Education Year 8-13 in Language and Social Studies Master's Programme.
This course may be taken as a single course by students who meet the admission requirements.
The course curriculum is a combination of rather advanced reading, speaking, listening, and writing activities, with a focus on practical grammar (approx. level C according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)). It includes elements of translation, essay writing and oral presentations. Foreign students who do not speak Norwegian can use English in translation tasks.
Admission requirements
A bachelor's degree (180 ECTS), or equivalent qualification, in Russian or Russian Studies with a minimum of 60 ECTS in the Russian coursework. An average grade equivalent to C or better in the Bachelor degree is required.

Objectives of the course
After completing the course the students have the following knowledge and abilities:
Knowledge
The students have knowledge about:
- complex grammatical constructions in Russian
- the stylistic techniques that characterize various genres
Ability
The students can:
- translate advanced texts into Russian and discuss current events in Russian
- carry out oral presentations in Russian
Credit reduction
If you pass the examination in this course, you will get an reduction in credits (as stated below), if you previously have passed the following courses:
- RUS-3040 Practical written and oral Russian 2 5 ects
Teaching methods

- 8 written assignments must have been submitted by the given weekly deadline and must have received a pass.
- An oral presentation of approx. 10 to 15 minutes must have been completed with a pass during the semester.

The oral exam will be in Russian and will include the following tasks:
1) read a portion of a text from the syllabus;
2) answer to the questions about the content of this text;
3) have a conversation with the examiner based on the topic of this text.
