Course content
The course covers topics at the intersection of economics and health. It starts with the basic question of why and how the government should (and should not) intervene in health care. This covers the theory of market failure, and the demand/supply of health and the market for health insurance. Next the course covers different types of payment systems for health and funding of health systems. This includes an analysis of the pros and cons of fee for service, capitation, bundled payments and pay-for-performance. We then analyse regulation and payment systems in some specific sectors, for instance the system for regulating and paying for pharmaceuticals, hospital services and physicians. Objectives of the course
