Course content

Introduction to simulation; Simulation Examples; General principles; Programming languages ​​and methods.

INE-3601 Robotics in Manufacturing Systems, STE6210 Robotics in Manufacturing Systems

Objectives of the course

The course gives students insights of fundamentals of manufacturing system simulation and advanced simulation methods and tools. Exercises are provided for mastering those methods and tools within the Virtual Manufacturing Laboratory / visualization center and verified within the Machining Laboratory.

Knowledge base of Virtual Manufacturing is enlarged through use of advanced designing, programming and production simulating methods and tools.

Project based course will cover "in general" problems of modern enterprises and provide the solutions from the field of industrial engineering.

Manufacturing "know how" is extended with use of most modern industrial machines for parts production and transportation within the factory scale and finally automated systems for mechanical assembly.

Knowledge and understanding:

  • The student should have knowledge about Computer-Aided Manufacturing systems and their integration with manufacturing equipment.
  • The student should have knowledge about industrial robot programming.

Skills:

  • The student should be able to use advanced programming tools for simulation of industrial robots and manufacturing devices.

Competence:

  • The student should have an overview of advanced industrial digital twin and know possibilities and limitations of modern simulation tools.
  • The student should have general competence about modeling and optimization in modern manufacturing.

Teaching methods

Lectures, and laboratory work / exercises, mainly with computers. Project work.

More info about the assignment

After the lectures, there will be an individual task based on a real industrial case.

Students need to build a simulation, improve the factory process, and then make a report with a presentation.

The course evaluation will be based on this task.


Re-sit examination

Resit exam will not be arranged for this course.
