PYRO Workshop: AI in young researchers' lives

Our local AI expert Marko Lukic (UiT) will provide an update on UiT’s AI tools as well as guide us through the data safety guidelines for responsible use of AI for research, data analysis as well as preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals.

Next, our guest speaker, Razvan Chereches – experienced EU grant evaluator and expert in AI applications, will give an interactive workshop on the practical use of AI for preparation of competitive grant proposals. In this live working session Razvan will take real projects from the room - an article draft, a grant idea, a methods section at any stage - and work on them live with AI, from the first structured prompt to a text you can defend. You will see the workflow end to end, including where it fails and what to check before trusting an output. Submit your current draft or project idea (more info below) and see live how AI tools can help you develop it faster then you would ever expect. 

We will close the session with Matthias Mittner (IPS), who will take a step back from the practical side and look at what we know, and what we don't yet know, about how AI tools affect our cognition. Drawing on research on attention and cognition, he will discuss cognitive offloading, the risk of losing a sense of agency over our own work, and what it means for researchers when thinking itself gets delegated. A slightly sceptical counterpoint to end the day.

Unfinished is more useful than polished. We will work through three or four of them, and nothing is shared outside the session.

Everyone who is interested in the implementation of AI into their research work.  Any experience with article and grant writing will make it easier to follow the examples in the workshop part.
