Populærvitenskapelig sammendrag av avhandlingen:
Hydrogen could help Norway cut emissions and move beyond oil. Northern Norway’s surplus and low-cost power makes it attractive for hydrogen projects, but development may conflict with traditional land use and Sámi rights. Using energy modelling, interviews, and energy cafés, the study assesses production, exports, maritime use, and impacts in Arctic Norway. A post-petroleum future requires a phase-out plan for the petroleum industry and scale-up of green hydrogen. Exports to the EU are feasible, but costs must fall and projects must align with social values and land-use priorities. Progress towards a green Arctic shipping corridor by 2030 is promising, yet geopolitics and Longyearbyen’s energy choices could slow it. Social acceptance of a wind-powered hydrogen project hinges on energy justice and trust and is shaped by external factors. Green hydrogen can bolster northern socio-economic resilience through a bottom-up approach that favours local benefits and respects Indigenous rights.
