The Nordic Anthropological Film Association (NAFA) in co-operation with Kabelvåg School of Moving Images and Arbeidern, and with the research group EA:RTH (Department of Social Sciences and Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education) is organising the 43rd NAFA International Ethnographic Film Festival (https://nafa2024.net) in Kabelvåg, 4-7 September
The NAFA International Ethnographic Film Festival is the oldest in Europe and the second oldest in the world and unique in several ways, for example that the event takes place at a new location every year, since 2001 held either in or outside the Nordic countries. It always showcases ethnographic films selected by an international selection committee, as is the case this year as well. This year's festival will be kicked off with a full day of presentations under the heading 'Pictures from the Arctic' with screenings of films from the Arctic, including northern Norway, and a master class on films from the circumpolar north with Dr Jouko Aaltonen (Director, Illume OY/Researcher, Aalto University). The master class will be followed by a special screening of Sakari Pälsi's classic, Travels in the Arctic, shot in 1917. For a detailed programme of the whole event see the dedicated festival webpage: https://nafa2024.net/.
