We encourage all participants to secure their plane tickets and accommodation in Tromsø as soon as possible. In recent years, Tromsø has experienced a significant tourist boom, and despite June being out of the high season, hotel rooms nevertheless fill up quickly.

Travelling to Tromsø

You can travel to Tromsø by plane, bus, or car, but there is no railway connection to the city.

Tromsø has an international airport, Langnes, that has recently been expanded and offers many direct flights connecting Tromsø to Berlin, Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Vienna, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Gdańsk, and other cities. Tromsø is well-connected to other Norwegian cities, and there are direct flights from Oslo, Bergen, and Trondheim.

Accommodation

We have reserved a limited number of rooms for conference participants at discounted rates. Note that the rooms at Scandic Ishavshotel include breakfast; those at Comfort Hotel Express do not. Participants are to make bookings themselves using the codes/ links provided.

  1. Scandic Ishavshotel: 1890 NOK per night - BREAKFAST INCLUDED. Use code BUIT310526 (must be used by 22 March).
  2. Comfort Hotel Xpress: 1090 NOK per night - WITHOUT BREAKFAST. Use this link (must be used by 1 April).

If you decide to reserve your accommodation independently, we recommend choosing a hotel in the city centre, such as:

From the city center, you can take a bus to the university campus (called Breivika), where the conference venue is located. There are plenty of buses and several routes that go from the center to the campus (get off at the stop "UiT"). The bus ride takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Detailed information about buses can be found below.

Closer to the conference venue, there is an additional accommodation option: the Penguin Hotel, which is the Patient Hotel primarily intended for hospital patients and their relatives, who travel to Tromsø from other parts of Northern Norway. This hotel is part of the University Hospital of North Norway. The Penguin Hotel is located one bus stop away from the campus and is also within walking distance from the conference venue (approximately a 10-minute walk). The price per room here is usually similar to the hotels in the city center. There are no grocery stores in the vicinity. If you choose to stay at this hotel, please note that you will encounter many patients, and the hotel entrance is located within the hospital. Since the purpose of the hotel is to accommodate hospital patients, we do not recommend staying there.

Getting from the airport to the city center

The Tromsø airport Langnes is located 3 km from downtown (a 10-minute drive by bus or car)To get to the city center, you can take the Airport Express bus, a city bus, or a taxi.

City bus

You can take one of the following busses:

  • Bus 26 (Tromsdalen via the city center) stops at Wi-To.

We recommend taking either bus 26 or 40, as these are the fastest options to reach the Tromsø city center. Bus 42 takes longer due to the tunnel being closed.

There are several options for purchasing a bus ticket:

You need a ticket for one zone (Tromsø). A single-zone ticket is valid for 60 minutes from the time you activate it.

  • Ticket MachinesYou can also buy tickets from ticket machines. There is a ticket machine at the bus stop near the airport, where you can pay with a bank card.

  • Onboard Purchase: Tickets can also be purchased directly on the bus, but note that only cash (NOK) is accepted. Bus drivers in Tromsø do not accept bank cards. Bus drivers cannot provide change, so you must have the exact fare of 50 NOK in cash.
