CRAFT & ENCODE present: Aniara (2018)

The research groups CRAFT and ENCODE invite you to a screening of the science fiction film 'Aniara' (2018), directed by Pella Kågerman and Hugo Lilja at Aurora Fokus Kino on Thursday October 08 at 1730.
Swedish Nobel laureate Harry Martinson's Aniara (1956) is a rarity in the 20th century: an epic poem. It is also that even rarer of things: an epic science fiction poem. Informed by the looming threat of the Cold War turning hot and the possibilities of space flight, Martinson wrote his poem in 103 short cantos about a spaceship taking flight from a dying Earth to deliver passengers to safety. But it goes wrong, and the spaceship Aniara drifts off course into unknown space. The poem is an existential masterpiece.
The film Aniara (2018) is a Danish and Swedish joint venture that adapts the poem to more modern sensibilities of climate catastrophe and the possibility of the rich escaping to Mars. But the cinematic Aniara meets the same fate as its poetic forebearer. An accident, and the 3 week trip to Mars becomes something else entirely...
The screening of Aniara is part of the film series 'CRAFT & ENCODE Present...' undertaken by the CRAFT research lab at the NFH and the ENCODE research group at HSL. The films are screened in partnership with Verdensteatret Cinematek. Due to the renovations at Verdensteatret, the screening will take place at Aurora Fokus Kino instead.
The screening will be accompanied by an introduction, and a discussion afterward in the cinema hall led by Zoheb Mashiur (NFH).
Tickets can be purchased through Verdensteatret's website.
The film will be shown with English subtitles.
