Open Science and research supervision at UiT – a workshop with focus on career and expertise development (digital)

In collaboration with UiT’s research supervision development programme, the University Library offers a workshop on Open science in research supervision. We welcome all UiT employees who supervise PhD projects.

The workshop is organised twice and we invite you to join either in person (11 Feb) or on Teams (18 Feb).

Eallju – Developing the High North: UiT’s strategy towards 2030 explicitly states that practicing Open Science is a means to achieve our ambition of contributing to the development of innovative, democratic and sustainable solutions for major societal challenges. Open Science implies promoting openness and transparency in ways that comply with current legal and ethical guidelines, both in research, education and innovation.

Research and publication practices that were common earlier, are not necessarily beneficial for building careers today and tomorrow. Both EU and the Research Council of Norway have demanded Open Science for years. Furthermore, UiT and other institutions are currently implementing the COARA Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment and the NOR-CAM – A toolbox for recognition and rewards in academic careers. Both texts emphasise new ways of evaluating the quality and impact of research.

The workshop, which is offered in collaboration with the UiT research supervision development programme, has a duration of 1,5 hours and is structured as follows:

  1. Short introduction by research librarians Helene N. Andreassen and Per Pippin Aspaas.
  2. Group discussion on how supervisors can integrate Open Science in their research supervision.
  3. Plenary wrap-up.
