The Orchestral Joik received enormous attention during Nordland Musikkfestuke in Bodø last year. Now the Northern Light Festival can present the show as the official opening concert to the festival in 2018.
"The audience is rocked," wrote the enthusiastic critic Hanna-Lisa Skau in Avisa Nordland when she watched The Orchestral Joik Project last year. We are pleased that the audience in Tromsø will now have the opportunity to experience the work, written by the internationally renowned composer Frode Fjellheim.
Fjellheim, who boasts the titles of musician, composer and producer, is perhaps best known for having composed opening song for the Disney movie Frozen (2013). In the 1990s he started his Jazz Joik Ensemble, today better known as Transjoik.
When we present the performance during the Northern Light Festival, he brings together the strong soloists Mari Boine, Anneli Drecker, Marja Mortensson and Berit Norbakken Solset. On guitar, we have the legendary Ronni Le Tekrø from the well-known Norwegian rock band TNT.
Conductor is merited Anders Eljas - known from his collaboration with Abba and for the management of several musicals on Broadway.
This will be an evening of western art music, modern jazz and sami jazz.
